StopTech Announces TÜV Approval of Balanced Brake Upgrades for 12 Vehicles

For: Immediate Release     Date: February 10, 2006    Contact: Dan Barnes

February 10, 2006—Torrance, California USA –StopTech announces that it has achieved TÜV approval for 21 applications of its Balanced Brake Upgrade® systems, making them legal for road use in Germany and other countries that require TÜV approval. While these rigorous standards to ensure safety are not required in most countries, TÜV approval is an impressive recognition of quality for any company’s products and operations. StopTech began the process of gaining approval for these brake systems more than two years ago.

StopTech Balanced Brake Upgrades have been granted TÜV approval for 21 different applications on 12 vehicles from Audi, Volkswagen and BMW, including 332x32-mm (13.1-in.) front, 355x32-mm (14-in.) front and 355x32-mm four-wheel configurations for the BMW E46 M3. Please see the chart at the end of this release for a complete list.

Performance Testing

The TÜV agency StopTech worked with to obtain the approvals administered performance tests, including stopping distance measured equal to or better than the original certified for the vehicle, caliper mounting bracket durability and durability of the two-piece AeroRotor® hat/disc assembly. StopTech’s billet-aluminum brackets have shown they can withstand one million load cycles without damage. The TÜV agency was so surprised with the performance that it duplicated the part in steel. The steel part failed to complete the test. Hats and brackets are machined at StopTech's facility in Torrance, California, using advanced CNC machinery. Additionally, for each vehicle, the TÜV agency checked the accuracy of the installation manual and the fit and ease of installation of the parts.

Rotor Durability

In the beginning, StopTech’s AeroRotor, which had already demonstrated its robustness by lasting through 26 hours of practice, qualifying and racing at Daytona, was shown to be at least as resistant to cracking as the leading competitor’s disc, but the TÜV agency was not satisfied. StopTech worked to develop a new grey iron formulation, improving its rotor. The StopTech AeroRotor now has demonstrated significantly greater resistance to cracking than any available competitive product. Both drilled and slotted rotors have been TÜV-approved.

Stainless Steel Brake Lines

The TÜV agency checked to ensure that brake lines are the correct length on each vehicle application, to ensure safety. StopTech is a DOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) registered supplier of stainless steel brake lines, which it manufactures in Southern California. Line materials and fittings are the highest quality parts available. Lines feature a clear, abrasion-resistant cover for maximum protection against chafing. Every fully assembled StopTech stainless steel brake line is tested to a pressure of 4,500 psi.

Quality and Conformance of Product

TÜV certification also involved review of all engineering, manufacturing and sales processes, material and finish specifications and blueprints. The TÜV agency also approved the processes StopTech uses to ensure that the product it delivers continues to conform to the approved standards.

StopTech has undertaken a significant investment to enter the German market with its U.S.-engineered automotive products. Not only have StopTech Balanced Brake Upgrades come out on top in countless performance tests and professional racing series, they have proven that they also meet some of the strictest regulatory standards in the world for performance, durability, correct installation and overall quality.
