The two-piece, floating rotors feature StopTech’s patented vane design for enhanced cooling and resistance to rotor coning at high temperature. Why Upgrade your GT500?The factory Shelby GT500 brake system is fairly stout, but there are a few areas for significant improvement: Weight: Weight is the enemy of the sports car, particularly when it’s found at the wheel end. The GT500 needs all the help it can get in this area, and StopTech’s DRK removes approximately 5lb per front corner! Reducing unsprung weight means less rotational inertia, which translates to improved steering response, less energy required to accelerate the vehicle, and improved roadholding and ride quality. In other words, the vehicle’s ability to stop, turn, and accelerate are all favorably impacted by reducing unsprung rotor weight. Cooling: StopTech’s AeroRotor DRK includes the
same directional internal cooling vane design used to win races in SPEED
World Challenge GT class professional road racing. This patented design
induces between 10 and 20 percent more cooling air flow than typical curved-vane
rotors, and a greater than 50 percent increase compared to pillar-vane-style
rotors. Braking performance is enhanced with reduced tendency to fade,
as well as increased brake pad and rotor life under heavy use.
Extended Pad, Rotor, and Bearing Service Life: StopTech’s two-piece, floating rotor design allows the rotor to expand evenly as it is heated, maintaining parallel friction surfaces, rather than coning. This reduces the tendency for radial pad taper wear and promotes consistent performance and pedal feel throughout the service life of a pad set. The AeroRotor’s two-piece design also transfers less heat to the vehicle’s hub and wheel bearings, promoting enhanced service life of these parts. Pricing and OptionsStopTech AeroRotor DRKs for the Mustang GT500 are available with slotted surfaces for maximum durability under severe use or cross-drilled to aesthetically match the cross-drilled OE rear rotors. List price is $750 per pair for slotted rotors, $850 per pair for drilled rotors. Replacement iron friction rings include new mounting hardware (often sold at additional cost by competitors) and are priced the same as StopTech’s standard 355x32mm replacement iron at $245 per side for slotted, $305 per side for drilled. These are all-new castings designed to provide sufficient clearance for the wider pad annulus (swept region) of the Mustang GT500’s OE pads. Other AeroRotor DRK ApplicationsStopTech AeroRotor DRKs are available for many other applications, including all C5 Corvettes and non-Z51 C6 Corvettes, as well as the C6 Corvette Z06. StopTech has recently introduced AeroRotor DRKs for the front axles of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII and IX, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 through R34 with Brembo® calipers from 8/93 on. Previously-released AeroRotor DRK applications include a variety of Acura and Honda applications such as the Integra Type R, NSX and Prelude, Dodge Viper SRT-10, Ferrari F360 Modena, and Nissan 350Z Track Model.
