Torrance, Calif--Bill Auberlen, 2003 SPEED Touring Car champion, picked up where he left off from last season winning the first race of the 2004 season at Sebring… this time around with StopTech brakes.

In his #1 Turner Motorsport BMW 325i, Auberlen earned his 9th World Challenge pole position with a track record time of 2:23.199 at an average speed of 93.017 mph. Off to another fantastic start he fell back one place in the first corner but came back fighting. After a full course yellow, he took an opportunity to pass Pierre Kleinubing by outgunning him down the front straight and out-braking him in the first corner. He led the rest of the race and took his sixth SPEED Touring Car checkered flag by 1.821 seconds. “The StopTech brake system helped me get the pole and win the race. StopTech improved our performance right off the bat. This is a relationship I have been trying to get going for two years and now it has come together,” said Auberlen.

“We are very excited to be on the Turner Motorsport #1 car with Bill Auberlen. Turner Motorsport and Bill Auberlen are off to a sterling start for the ’04 season. In 2003 we had 16 top ten finishes in World Challenge, and now Bill Auberlen and Turner Motorsport have brought us our first Touring Car win with StopTech brakes,” said Bob Lee, General Manager of StopTech. David Farmer won Mosport in World Challenge GT in 2002 with StopTech brakes.

The Turner Motorsport #1 car is running StopTech’s standard E46 3-Series kit with ST-40 squeeze-forged calipers and 328x28mm two-piece floating directional AeroRotors® with their patent pending high airflow vane design. The StopTech 7075 T6 patent pending directional billet hats induce more airflow over the outer surface of the rotors than traditional hats, providing additional cooling, improving overall system performance, and extending pad life. The ST-40 caliper features a patented bridge that makes the caliper up to two times stiffer than similar designs to improve pedal feel and high speed brake modulation.

StopTech LLC, located in Torrance, California, manufactures high performance brake systems and components for production and production-based racecars. StopTech is the leader in Balanced Brake SystemsTM for production cars and has two patents in basic brake technology and two others pending. StopTech has a worldwide network of resellers.
