For: Immediate Release     Date: January 25, 2004    Contact: Robert Lee

Torrance, Calif--StopTech LLC has agreed to become a contingency sponsor of the 2004 Rolex Sports Car and Grand-Am Cup series. Participating teams using StopTech Balanced Brake UpgradesTM or certain StopTech components, as well as running StopTech decals, are eligible to earn extra prize money or product certificates based on their finishing position.

In 2003 two Daytona Prototypes ran StopTech brake components. The #27 Doran-Lista and #8 G&W Motorsports used StopTech’s components. Price Cobb, managing director for G&W, said, "Since we switched to StopTech, the drivers really like the pedal and the pads last much longer. The rotors run cooler and we don't need our brake ducts with the StopTech’s."

In Grand-Am Cup, the Istook/Aines team has used StopTech’s standard Audi S4 332x32mm Balanced Brake Upgradetm since 2001. The team won the GS2 class at Mont-Tremblant in 2002. “The first time I ran them I immediately noticed a firmer pedal and better brake modulation,” said Don Istook, co-owner and driver. “The calipers run 100 degrees cooler and the rotors last three times longer than my previous brake systems.” Team Lexus and Performance Nissan’s 350Z ran StopTech’s stainless steel brake lines during the 2003 season.

“We like the format and classes in Grand-Am and believe this series is an excellent venue to showcase our race and production brake products,” said Bob Lee, StopTech’s General manager. “We are excited to be involved with Grand-Am and look forward to seeing our teams on the podium this year.”

The two-piece StopTech AeroRotor assembly includes a floating hat system that resists coning during heating and cooling cycles. The unique vane design features innovations on trailing and leading edges that optimize airflow through the rotor. The result is 10-30% better airflow than other directional vaned racing rotors available. StopTech patent-pending directional hats induce more airflow over the outer surface of the rotors, providing additional cooling, extending pad life, and improving overall system performance – all very important factors in the racing environment. The ST-40 caliper features a patented bridge that makes it up to two times stiffer than similar designs, improving pedal feel and brake-torque reaction.

The Grand-Am racing series kicks off the 2004 season on January 29 at Daytona International Speedway.
