For: Immediate Release Date: April 22, 2002 Contact: Robert Lee Torrance, Calif--Joe Nonnamaker and Shane Lewis brought their StopTech brake equipped #43 Planet Earth Corvette Z06 home in first place overall after 3 grueling hours of racing in the UnitedAuto Sport 250 GrandAm race at Phoenix. The team started the race in 7th place but quickly moved through the field to take the lead before the halfway mark. They were able to keep their lead for the remainder of the race, despite engine trouble, thanks to the flawless performance of their StopTech braking system. StopTech's braking solutions are unique in that they offer a balanced front upgrade that retains the stock OEM rear braking components. This system works well even in punishing racing applications like the GrandAm Cup racing series. StopTech focuses on properly sizing their high performance front brake components to work seamlessly with the stock rear brakes. The result is a perfectly balanced braking system that performs at the same level of ultra-expensive braking systems at a fraction of the cost. The Planet Earth's win at Phoenix is a shining example of how well a properly engineered braking system can perform without spending an arm and a leg on high dollar systems. The Planet Earth Corvette Z06 led most of the 3 hour race and won using StopTech's ST-40 four piston calipers with patented stiffening bridge, 355mm x 32mm slotted AeroRotors with patent pending directional billet hats, and the stock OEM rear brake set-up. Even at the end of the race the StopTech equipped Corvette was still outbraking the other Corvettes, Porsches and BMWs with braking systems costing greater than five times the StopTech system. What is even more impressive is that this StopTech braking system is available to the public and is equally at home on the street as it is winning 3-hour endurance races. "The brakes gave me confidence every time I went to them," said Shane Lewis, one of the two-driver team that raced to victory. "We were able to use these brakes the entire three hour race around the tight and twisty Phoenix International Raceway and we had no brake wear issues at all." "For a Corvette to be able to brake with the Porsches we run against
is pretty remarkable," said Joe Nonnamaker, the other half of the
driving duo. "The StopTech system allows us to make the Corvette
competitive with the Porsches without making the substantial investment
that some other braking systems require." StopTech LLC was founded in March of 1999 as a brake technology company. The founding partners came from backgrounds in racing, engineering and manufacturing, including racecar design and fabrication, brake component manufacturing and performance aftermarket distribution. StopTech has two patents in basic brake technology and two pending. StopTech designs and manufactures their own race quality AeroRotors® and calipers, as well as all their other big brake kit components. Located in Torrance, California, StopTech is the only brake upgrade manufacturer offering balanced brake upgrade systems for racing and the performance aftermarket.
