August 18, 2005—Denver, Colorado USA – With only two events left in the eleven-race 2005 SCCA SPEED World Challenge schedule, Jeff Altenburg scored crucial manufacturer’s championship points for Mazda during Saturday’s Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver, with a hard-fought 2nd place finish in the StopTech-equipped #72 Tri-Point Motorsports MAZDA 6. Starting from 7th on the grid, Altenburg also earned himself the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for an impressive display of racecraft that saw him advance five positions during the race, which was contested on a 1.65 mile temporary downtown street circuit.

StopTech-equipped Tri-Point drivers Dino Crescentini and Randy Pobst finished 5th and 7th, ensuring once again that all of Tri-Point’s StopTech-equipped MAZDA 6s were in the top ten. In qualifying, Pobst, of Gainesville, Georgia had just barely missed out on the pole, which he has earned three times this year. Early in the race, Pobst made a strong challenge for the lead, but a very rare miscue saw his #73 entry fall to 11th place. His fight back to 7th came with a well-earned reward however, as he passed the #42 Acura TSX of championship leader Peter Cunningham, and closed the gap in the drivers championship race to only five points. In the manufacturers championship, Mazda now sits only 4 points out of the lead, held by Acura.
