For: Immediate Release Date: July 20, 2005 Contact: Robert Lee July 20, 2005—Sonoma, California USA – It was a warm, perfect weekend for racing in the beautiful Northern California wine country for this week’s SPEED World Challenge event at Infineon Raceway. “Perfect” may also sum up the dominating performances of cars and drivers equipped with StopTech Brake Systems: StopTech cars grabbed the pole and the race win in GT, and in the Touring Car event scored the pole, the race win, and a sweep of all top five places. It was a gratifying confirmation for the innovative Torrance, California firm, to see such flattering results at the Infineon road course, which is known to place a stout premium on braking performance as a key element to fast lap times. GT: Lou Gigliotti gets pole and first SPEED GT win since ’97, with StopTech’s new C5/C6 4-wheel kit featuring six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipersAfter several consistently strong runs of late, Lou Gigliotti put it all together in Sonoma. Driving the No. 28 LG Pro Long Tube Header Chevrolet Corvette C6, Gigliotti, of Dallas, Texas, set a new qualifying record with a time of 1:39.581 (91.463 mph) and earned his second-consecutive SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT pole position Saturday morning. Gigliotti backed this up with a green-to-checkers win on Sunday, the 20th of his career, setting a new GT record for average speed in the process. The victory also laid to rest a 24-race winless drought for Corvette in the SPEED GT series. Gigliotti comments, "This track is really hard to pass on, braking is critical here. The Porsches are usually very strong in the braking zones, but our Corvette was able to brake every bit as good”. Gigliotti’s final margin of victory was 7.1 seconds. His No. 28 Corvette C6 is set up with StopTech’s new C5/C6 4-wheel kit with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers, which is now available from StopTech for street or race use. Touring Car: Pole for Pobst, 3rd consecutive Infineon win for Auberlen, top-5 sweep for StopTechCalifornian Bill Auberlen and Turner Motorsports have Infineon Raceway completely figured out. Scoring his 3rd consecutive SPEED Touring Car win at Infineon, and 2nd consecutive win this season, Auberlen yet again drove in dominating fashion in his No. 1 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 325i, solidifying his reputation as one of the top Touring Car drivers. His victory was earned at record average speed, and was never seriously challenged after he got away early with a strong start from the outside front row. Auberlen also set a new SPEED Touring Car fast-lap record on lap 2. “The car was excellent all weekend as evidenced by our times during practice, qualifying, and the race. StopTech Brakes were a big part of our performance", Auberlen said. Pole-sitter Randy Pobst of Gainesville, GA, driving the No. 73 MazdaSpeed/Tri-Point Motorsports Mazda 6, also had a great weekend at Infineon. Pobst drove convincingly, finishing second to Auberlen’s BMW after just nipping him for the pole a day earlier. Pobst, who is also strongly-regarded as one of the top Touring Car drivers, commented, “we ran very strong this weekend and were able to stay very consistent with lap times. The car’s set-up also gave me a lot of confidence with the brake pedal and I was able to use it effectively”. Completing the top 5 sweep for StopTech-equipped cars were Pobst’ teammate Dino Crescentini (Malibu, California), in the No. 74 MazdaSpeed/Tri-Point Mazda 6, scoring his first-ever SPEED Touring Car podium; taking 4th and 5th respectively were Bimmerworld/BMW teammates James Clay, of Blacksburg, Va., and "Mad Dog" Matt Richmond, of Mooresville, N.C., in a pair of BimmerWorld BMW 325i’s. Capping off the stellar weekend’s results, Seth Thomas, of Cumming, Ga., in the StopTech-equipped No. 38 BimmerWorld/BMW 325i, earned the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for finishing eighth after starting 15th.
