2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition Launches in Monterey
by Frank A. Filipponio | Sep 13, 2012

Chrysler surprised us while we were up in Monterey last month - parking a 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It was the first time most of us had seen the new Viper in person and it is stunning. It's a bit more elegant on the outside than the old one that went out of production two years ago. The interior is much more elegant too, with new materials and a cleaner look, plus comfortable and supportive Sabelt seats that make this really look like a $100,000 vehicle.

Wearing iconic GTS Blue paint and dual white stripes, the Launch Edition also gets a serialized dash plaque inside the cabin, Black Laguna leather with contrasting stitching, an upgrade to stickier Pirelli tires and special polished five-spoke wheels that evoke wheel designs from the 1996 and 2006 new Viper coupe launches. You still need to check the box for the Track Package if you want to upgrade the stock Brembo rotors to StopTech AeroRotors, though.

Those paying close attention will also notice that the Launch Edition features "Stryker" badges on the hood and steering wheel, with a blue background instead of the normal gray one found on all other 2013 SRT Vipers models.

The new SRT flagship continues the Viper's legacy of being a brutal performer, powered by all-aluminum, mid-engine 8.4-liter V-10 delivering 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque– the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world. Chrysler did decide to add a bit more civility to the Viper this time around though, with things like cruise control, stability control and launch control in the mix for the first time.

"Designed with Viper loyalists in mind, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model brings back the classic paint schemes that have adorned all previous Viper coupe launches to help us celebrate the return of our brand's flagship performance machine to the supercar market," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports and Senior Vice President – Product Design, Chrysler Group LLC. "Our American-built supercar showcases the very best we have to offer by incorporating superior craftsmanship, the finest materials, a host of new technologies and ergonomic improvements while respecting its focus on outright performance."

Centric Parts is proud to be a Tier 1 supplier to Chrysler with our StopTech brand, and especially proud of our availability on such an iconic American sports car as the Viper. Not just Chrysler, but several OEMs use Centric Parts as a technical partner or supplier for their highest performance and dedicated race products, and that side of the business is growing all the time. Don't be surprised if you start to see StopTech brakes as standard equipment on more high performance cars in the future.
