STOPTECH GT RACING CALIPER GIVES TURNER MOTORSPORT A BIG BRAKE WITH VICTORY AND SERIES LEAD IN MIAMI

Miami, FLA. (March 5, 2011) – Turner Motorsport captured the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend in the #96 NorthWest/Turner Motorsport BMW M3 equipped with the new StopTech STR-40GT racing caliper at the Continental Challenge Kia 200. The sound victory at this second stop of the series gives Turner Motorsport, co-drivers Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana, and BMW the lead in team, driver and manufacturer points respectively.

The race represented the second official outing for the STR-40GT racing caliper from StopTech, the ultra-performance division of Centric Parts, after helping Turner to the podium last month at the season opener. The caliper is loaded with the company's racing innovations and optimized for endurance racing.

The brakes came in handy as Dalla Lana and Auberlen completed 87 laps (and lead for 56 of them) during this 200 mile race around the 2.3-mile, 11-turn speedway road course. That's over 950 turns and braking events in hard race conditions.

"With this series being the first of the race season to get underway, Turner Motorsport has given Team StopTech a real rolling start for 2011," stated Dan Lelchuk, President of Centric Parts. "It's great to have our newest racing caliper on board." Team StopTech, not an actual race team, consists of select production-based race cars and teams racing on StopTech brakes.

The StopTech STR-40GT pulls features from both the original StopTech ST series calipers and the company's top-of-the-line Trophy STR racing calipers. It features StopTech's patented bolt-in bridge technology which reinforces the caliper, virtually eliminates distortion, provides slots to enhance cooling airflow, and allows changing brake pads without disturbing the caliper’s mounting. The calipers are machined from billet and sport a natural anodized finish that is impervious to color change at the continuous high temperatures experienced during race conditions.

As with any StopTech Balanced Brake Upgrade BBK system, the STR-40GT is available with pistons sized for the requirements of any production-based race car, including those with OE master cylinders, boosters and vehicle dynamics control systems. The correct pedal effort, travel and feel will be maintained, as well as the distribution of brake torque between front and rear axles, yielding the maximum deceleration. Electronic aids such as ABS work correctly and tuning, if allowed under a racing series’ rules, is simplified.

The Kia 200 will be broadcast on SPEED television Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. ET.  The next stop in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series will be April 8-9 at Barber Motorsport Park, in Birmingham, Alabama.
